APPRAISAL OF MAN KIND

You have just reached home after a hectic day at work and you find out that there is nothing to eat in the refrigerator. You get your car and drive to the nearby store to pick up some groceries. You pick up some beef nuggets and a ready to eat salad to go with it. Your leisure trip to the neighborhood super market has already damaged the environment.
The car that you are driving has added to the green house gases through emissions, the beef you bought was from cattle raised on a farm that contributed in a big way to the methane in the environment, the salad consists of vegetables that have been grown with pesticides that have made sure that the land will become barren in a few years time. And when you sit in front of your television with the food in front of you and the air conditioner cooling,  the electricity that you are using is causing the global warming though carbon dioxide production. Did you ever think about all these things? The answer is a big NO.
We all live busy lives working in big multinational corporations where we are constantly judged on our performance through appraisal cycles, but what about the appraisal of the entire human race which is destroying the very thing that gives it sustenance. Now that we are talking about our performance let me bring out certain facts.
a)      The temperature of the Earth has increased by one degree Fahrenheit since 1975.
b)      Polar ice caps are in danger of melting completely in the next 100 years.
c)      50% of fish consumed in the world comes from fishing farms. As we have over fished our oceans.
d)      25% of all animal species will become extinct in the next 25 years.

The some of the problems that are affecting us in a big way are:

1)      Dams as Killers:
The unabated creation of dams in the world, have increased the problems of people rather than providing us with a sustainable non polluting source of electricity. We have numerous examples of this from The Three Gorges dam on Yangtze River in China which was said to be partly responsible for the 2008 Sichuan earthquakes, to the Narmada river dam that will displace millions of people. In the recent times there have been a lot of landslides and cloud bursts the effects of which have been intensified due to the excavation done for the dams. Is this the development that we want? is a very vital question to ask here.

2)      Avoidable accidents:
As is the wraith of nature wasn’t dangerous enough the human race has its own part to play in the ecological destruction. Incidents such as oil spills and nuclear disasters have become periodic events in the world calendar. We can give the example of the Fujiyama nuclear disaster here which has polluted the ocean waters around Japan for centuries. These accidents have worst effect on the psych of people as these are both avoidable and dangerous.

3)      Global Warming:
This phenomenon is also a human created one which was non-existent before the industrial revolution. Activities such as power generation, perishable goods freezing and automobiles contribute to the green house gases in the environment. These trap the heat in earth’s atmosphere and increase the planets’ core temperature. Due this polar ice caps are melting. It has been estimated that in next 100 years the sea level may rise by 2 meters due to which the kind of damage in the coastal cities like Mumbai will be to the tune of $200 Billion.
Looking at all these parameters and the situations linked to them it seems that the human race is failing in other words deserves a very bad rating in its appraisal. But there are a few steps we can take to lessen or in a way reverse the damage that has been caused by our greed for unabated growth.  The following are some of the activities that we can undertake to undo the damage that we have already caused. But these activities need to be done immediately otherwise a stage might come when nothing we do will be of any use.

1)      Carbon Recycling:
One of the major researches that is being conducted these days is how to reduce the amount of carbon based green house gases in the environment so that global warming can be controlled. Trees do it naturally through the photosynthesis process, but it’s a long process. What we need to do is to extract carbon from the atmosphere in a way that it can be used as fuel. This will reduce our dependence on the fossil fuels. More over it will create a cycle in which we can use the fuels, and then recycle the carbon generated back into a fuel. This way we can control the amount of green house gases in the atmosphere and protect our planet from climate change.

2)      Spreading Awareness:
Another important factor is we have to make more and more people aware about the ways in which they can help in saving our planet from an imminent doom. They have to be told that they as consumers in a modern age are contributing as much towards the ecological destruction as the industries and power plants. They as consumers are one of the biggest stake holders in a disaster recovery plan. They hold the power of accepting the right kind of products and rejecting the ones that are not produced using eco friendly production processes. We as citizen should also hold our respective governments to implementing more ecologically viable initiatives. The NGOs in a country like India can play a major role in this process of public awareness towards the environment protection cause.

Yesterday while walking in a market near my house I overheard two small children talking. One was telling the other about not throwing an empty plastic bag on the roadside as the bacteria in the ground will not be able to absorb it. And I thought to myself that if a small child of 6-7 years of age can be so considerate towards the environment, we as adults can do much better.

Importance Of A Date

9th January 2012 would seem  like any other date to a normal person, but for a guy called nikhil this date is very very important. This just might  be the day he comes out of the shit he has been in, since the past 16 months. He hates his job and all the things that come with it. It is no ones fault but only his . He  made a wrong decision in college and he has been punished very badly for it. But on 9th Jan if everything goes well and he get a good percentile in cat, the world won't be the same place it was for him anymore.
He wants this badly, as bad as a drowning man needs a breadth of fresh air. This is the first and the last time he has been sucked into this mess of cost cuttings and denial. The next time he gets an opportunity to land a fancy job he will make sure he's not left wanting, and will  give it his best shot.

Training at Infosys Mysore

I believe that to learn any kind of computer related technology, you need to get formal training in it. A lot of people these days read from the internet, use the videos given on YouTube to learn new languages, it might work for some. But doing it on your own seems a little confusing and incomplete to me. Before writing about the training some description of my background.
I did my engineering in the field of IT, while being in college i didn't do much as far as programming was concerned. So going to Infosys for the their Foundation Training Program was a big opportunity to learn for me. Training in itself is comprehensive and covers almost all the topics that are taught in the course of computer science engineering. Outside Infosys the training is somewhat over-hyped but I personally didn't find it very difficult. Yes it is demanding but doable with a little bit of honest effort.

The training is divided into three parts which are:

1)Generic : This phase is of about 60 days and covers the basics of the database, java and the c language. It is basically for the engineers from the non-Computer Science background to get a feel of programming.

2) Intermediate : This phases' sole purpose is to make the trainees get a deeper knowledge of database and core Java. Duration is about 45 days.

3)Stream: There are 4 streams in all mobile-tech,Java,Open-Systems and .Net technology. Trainees get either of the 4 and then get trained on them for about 40 days.

Besides this professional training we were also given soft skills and business etiquette lectures. All said and done there was lots to learn there. And the campus is beautiful(with all modern amenities like gym, swimming pool, multiplex and running tracks) and one of the best in the country. But there are some negative points also about the place which are hard to overlook.
First of all the human resources team at infosys mysore is like a blood sucking vampire. Which is always coming up with ways of cost cutting in the form of increase in rents and facilities membership fees. All these things are very demoralizing for the new joiners. Besides this the security at this place is lot more than what is required, to the extent that the bags of trainees are checked after every 200 yards. Along with this the behavior and mannerisms of the security staff is very unfriendly and rude.If you survive the hostile policies and Guantanamo type security there is pathetic food to endure. Which does not suit north Indian crowd at all. We had most of our meals at a Dhaba(Indian Restaurant) outside the campus.
Mysore DC(Development center) like other places has its pros and cons. My final verdict about the place is that, staying there was tough but there was lots to learn which i would not have learnt anywhere else. So in a way I'm grateful to Infosys for all that I have learnt in the past 6 months.

Deloitte-"An unpleasant surprise "

Entering the fourth year of your college brings a set of mixed emotions to your mind, it includes exhilaration, excitement and disquiet. The year starts with young minds contemplating and comparing the different companies that they want to join. Everybody has a kind of notion of a dream company which will be the best option for them to kick start their career. Some make it and fullfil their pledge and there are some who dont.
In august this year Deloitte came to my college, I had heard and read alot about deloitte a month back when i came to know that it was coming for campus hiring. The pre placement talk was wonderful with the HR explaining to us what to expect of deloitte and the fields in which deloitte was working. I was very impressed and I really wanted to make it to deloitte.
First there was an Aptitude round which i cleared , next day it was service line interview, technical interview and HR interview. In sevice line interview 42 of us were divided into 7 groups and given a problem statement to prepare a presentation on, our group had the topic "Use of IT for enhancement of Profit margins of a firm". After this round 15 out of the 42 initial were left, and then came the technical and HR round. My technical interview went well but apparently everbody was doing well in that round, seeing their happy faces gave me a pang of nervousness as deloitte had specified that only 6 would make it. Then came the HR round, yes!!! this was the round i had been waiting for i thought that i'd do very well. But the end result was pretty much different, the HR made me nervous with her questions and the answers that i gave did not impress her.
So in the end, after 7 hours of gruelling interview and service round sessions when the result was announced my name wasnt there. I was very dissapointed as it was my first interview, but i also made a promise to my self that i would go to a much better company, with a better salary package. In the end i would just say Shit happens but how u take it, and what you learn from it matters the most.

YAMAHA FAZER-"TOURING SPIRIT"

As the end of my third year in college set in I like the rest wanted a bike.Initially I wanted a pulsar 220, that was before I saw the
Fazer.
It was a complete beauty more beautiful than anything I have ever seen before.I set my mind on getting a Fazer, small glitches like less power or the one head light mechanism could not deter me.Its sports bike look mesmerized me to unimaginable limits.
Its wide body and the wide rear tire easily makes it the most comfortable and easily maneuverable bike to ride. Its been 5 months since i got my bike, and it still doesn't stop surprising me every time I ride it.Just looking at it every morning lights up my day, cant stand dirt on it and keep wiping it off, love it so much. Moreover when you stop at a traffic signal everybody looks at it with admiration, that gives a feeling of immense satisfaction. And girls simply adore it...
Hats off to Yamaha for creating such a bike...

INTERNS-aptitude,gd,pi

Recently we had our college Tech Fest SOLUTIONS 2010 and i was asked to conduct an event INTERNS. It was basically a GD,pi,aptitude event.I was chosen as had won a Gd before in my college.
Now we needed registrations for the fest, then the time of campaigning started.Me and my batch mates and the juniors scouted almost every college in Pune for participants.
And in the end about 250 registrations were managed, out of which 98 was for interns. I was exhilarated.
A day before the event that is on 10th march i got the paper for the aptitude round it was prepared by the Career launcher faculty.Had 20 questions in all and the time allotted was 40 minutes.About 24 people cleared the cut-off.On 12th we had the GDs which were great, they were in a way perfect group discussions sans the general ambiguities. As the GD was going on me and other juniors helping me were trying our best to get all the logistics straight. There was a little bit of confusion as the people who had not cleared the cut-off wanted their participation certificates. Nine people got selected from the 24 that appeared for the GD.Then there were 3 rounds of group PI. In the last discussion I also participated as we were short of one person the topic was 'FRIENDS AND BOOKS SHOULD BE FEW AND GOOD'. Initially the group was divided into people talking about books and others who were interested in friends. But towards the end with the help of examples and justifications the group summarized the discussion.
The judge wanted to take me also for the Pi but I as an organizer could not do so.
But in the end the satisfaction of conducting an intellectual event flawlessly kept me smiling through out the day.

Zeitgeist- Spirit of the Age

zeitgeist is a phenomena,an uprising and a new perspective that has completely changed the way i look at things, it was a kind of awakening from a deep slumber for me. it changed the whole perspective that i had about the things around me.

i was going through the data shared on LAN and came across this german word that turned my world upside down.It was a documentary on how we have been sucked into simulated explanations of the different social, cultural and economic phenomenas around us.Since the time the humans have had a socially stable life the things that have been told to us by the religion, our leaders and the makers of the modern world is a complete lie. The explanations for these processes which have been inherited by us from tour ancestors is nothing but a manipulative strategy to keep us in the dark.

the documentary starts with a kind of hypnosis, this hypnosis is the hypnosis of awareness and not of deception. It explained the cultural, intellectual and spiritual morals of a country like USA, where almost each of dreams of working few years down the line.it has been clearly shown how the whole human race has been constantly lied to at an extent which is unimaginable.
the topics covered in this docudrama are:

1.)RELIGION:This is the part that swept me off my feet. the religion has always been subject towards which people are positively biased due to a staunch belief in god synonym of which is a word called FAITH,but this very word has been used as an instrument of deception.
we all know the usual history of jesus christ that is born of a vigin on 25th december star in the east, 12 disciples , performed miracles, dead for 3 days and then resurrected but do we have a substantiated proof that this actually happened?

NO this story is the one that has been used for the egyptian god of sun Horus, Mithra, Attis in Greece and more gods in other civilizations. Here the story is actually about the sun and is completely astrological.

the star in the EAST is Sirius which on december 24th aligns with the 3 brightest stars in the orions belt. And the three stars and the Sirius point to the point of the sunrise. During the winters day grow shorter and nights longer, it is then that the sun moves from 1st december to 24th december southwards, for three days the sun remains stagnant and on 25th moves one degree north.
This depicts how the story of god is purely astrological and based on the birth of the sun.

2.) WTC BOMBING:
Now the story here was that on the morning of the 9/11 the pentagon and the WTC had been attacked by the hijacked planes?....
The towers 1,2, 7 went down as soon as the planes hit them but what baffles me the most is how the towers fell down so rapidly when the part struck was way higher than the mid of the towers?

Ann what happened to the plane that was slatted to hit the pentagon, skimmed a few lilies in the pentagon garden i suppose.

The story here was that when the rescue workers were saving people they found traces of metal oxides that are used in the tunnel bursting operation, along with this there were visible slanted cuts on the foundation towers. Moreover the NORAD(North American Aerospace Command) which was made to shoot down potential aerial threat could do nothing?
They could not stop the attack as on the same day they were engaged in a high profile military exercise.

NORAD having an efficiency of 100% failed 4 times that day.......

out of the whole zeitgeist1 documentry these parts had the most profound effect on me...
